What to Do in August in Beaufort
Beaufort and the surrounding Sea Islands offer something for everyone this summer. Watch the egrets glide through the Port Royal Cypress Wetlands, spend a sun-soaked day at the beach at Hunting Island State Park, or take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, just steps from our front door.
And when you’re ready to explore, Bay Street’s charming downtown shops are right around the corner, complete with beautiful art galleries. In Beaufort, the best things in life are always close by.

Beaufort Shrimp Festival — Oct 2–3 at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. The 32nd annual festival features fresh-caught shrimp dishes from the region’s top restaurants and chefs, plus live music and a craft market. Plus, it’s within walking distance of the Rhett House Inn.
Pat Conroy Literary Festival — Oct. 22–25, 2026
Celebrate the legacy of one of the South’s most beloved authors during the 11th Annual Pat Conroy Literary Festival. Held throughout Beaufort, the weekend features author talks, book signings, writing workshops, exhibits, literary tours, performances, and special events honoring Pat Conroy’s life and work. Whether you’re an avid reader or simply love Southern storytelling, it’s a wonderful time to experience Beaufort’s rich literary heritage.
Penn Center Heritage Days — Nov 12–14
This annual Gullah heritage festival at the Penn Center on St. Helena Island features Gullah arts, crafts, food, music, history, demonstrations, and a parade. This is a great event if you’re interested in Lowcountry culture and history.
