Beaufort’s Coziest Season

There’s something special about Beaufort this time of year. The marsh catches the last light of the day, the Spanish moss hangs quietly from the live oaks, and the porch at the Rhett House Inn invites you to slow down over a second cup of coffee. Fall through the New Year is a lovely time to be here, and we’d be delighted to welcome you.

Holiday Traditions in Beaufort

December is a lovely time to be in Beaufort, especially when the town starts celebrating Christmas. The first weekend of the month brings several favorite local traditions, from late-night shopping on Bay Street to the annual Christmas parade. Beaufort’s holiday weekend returns December 4–6, 2026, with three days of festive events downtown:

  • A Night on the Town — Friday, Dec. 4, 6–9 p.m. Bay Street comes alive with late-night shopping, local restaurants, and holiday festivities.
  • Beaufort Christmas Tree Lighting — Friday, Dec. 4, 8:30 p.m. Join the community in welcoming the Christmas season.
  • Light Up the Night Boat Parade — Saturday, Dec. 5, 5–8 p.m. Watch local boats decked out in Christmas lights along Beaufort’s waterfront.
  • Beaufort Christmas Parade — Sunday, Dec. 6, 3–5 p.m. Enjoy a classic holiday parade featuring festive floats and local groups.

Can’t make it for the Christmas festivities weekend? Wreaths Across America at Beaufort National Cemetery takes place on Saturday, December 19, at noon. Each December, volunteers gather to place wreaths on veterans’ graves, honoring their service and keeping their memory alive. The ceremony includes wreath placement, and visitors are welcome to participate.
